City of Moscow Police Department
Protecting our Community with Commitment, Honor, and Integrity
Operations Division
The Operations Division is the largest and most visible division within the department; it is comprised of 21 officers who provide around the clock services in the City of Moscow as well assisting the Campus Division with law enforcement support to the University of Idaho. The Operations Division is responsible for responding to all calls of service from our community.
Within the division are specialized functions vital for ensuring efficient operations and concentrated law enforcement community policing objectives. The Field Training Officer Program prepares and trains newly hired officers for solo patrol duties. Officers selected as FTO’s are highly motivated and are committed to excellence. Our Crime Prevention/School Liaison Officer is responsible for handling all calls for service at all of elementary schools, Junior High school, and Moscow High school. In addition to handling calls for service, the Crime Prevention Officer provides educational presentations to the community in reference to safety and security issues, he is also the facilitator for the department’s Citizens Police Academy which is offered every year and spans a period of ten weeks. Our Academy is comprised of citizens from the community and students from the University of Idaho, who can earn college credit for their participation. The Traffic/Motor Unit Officer’s primary duties are working in conjunction with Idaho Department of Transportation on emphasis and directed patrols. The Traffic Officer provides educational contacts to commuters, helping with issues related to engineering problems, and enforcing the traffic codes. Our Bicycle Patrol is well received by the community, currently we have nine officers certified as Bike Officers. These nine officers enhance the regular patrol and provide the citizens an opportunity to interact with officers on a more personal level.
