Learn More About Our Chief of Police

David Duke was born in Alabama and as part of a military family he moved throughout the world during his childhood. After graduating from high school, David joined the Army and became a military police officer. After being honorably discharged he moved to Oklahoma City to seek his college education. While attending Oklahoma State University he joined the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1976. David advanced through the ranks and retired as a detective captain in the Investigations Bureau after being offered a division commander’s position with the Moscow Police Department in 1999. In 2005 David was appointed to the Assistant Chief’s position. On November 15, 2010 the Moscow City Council confirmed Mayor Nancy Chaney’s appointment of David to be the Chief of Police and he started his duties on January 1, 2011.

David attained an Associates Degree in Human Services from Oklahoma State University. He has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Oklahoma and received his masters in 1986 in Criminal Justice Management and Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy, and Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. David resides in Moscow with his wife, Jean, and has children and grandchildren in the quad cities area.

He enjoys many Idaho outdoor activities and appreciates working with the many fine men and women of the Moscow Police Department.
