A Day in the Life of A Firefighter
The Moscow Parent-Toddler Cooperative took a tour of the Station #1 firehouse on February 22. We learned about the firefighters, who lived in the station, sleep in dorm-like rooms while they are going to school at the university, and working at the fire station.
The kids loved the TV in the common room. The fire pole was a big hit, especially
when former firefighter Wendy Berrett slid down! The open area upstairs, used
for meetings and such, was an invitation for the young children to run around,
while the parents listened to our tour guides. Downstairs, we saw the kitchen
(firefighters are great cooks!) and even got to watch the engine and ambulance
go out on a call. It was really loud but exciting.
The kids really enjoyed looking in the ladder truck and the ambulance, and
had fun pretending to drive them. The parents were amazed that the Moscow
Fire Department is staffed volunteers, for the most part. As we were leaving,
the truck and ambulance returned from the call, so we got to see them back
in. What a great trip.
